From Pepper Farms to Value Creation

 IPC  18/05/2026  52

The future of pepper is no longer defined solely by production volume, but by how producing communities can create greater value from what they grow.

On 11-12 May 2026, the International Pepper Community (IPC) conducted a series of virtual coordination meetings with farmer representatives, agricultural extension officers, the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Sumedang Regency, and Cultivia as part of the preparation process for the upcoming pepper training programme in Pamekarsari Subdistrict, Sumedang, scheduled for July-August 2026.

The discussions focused on building a practical and inclusive training framework aimed at introducing farmers to value-added pepper products and broader downstream opportunities beyond traditional raw commodity markets. Preparations covered training materials, field coordination, participant readiness, and approaches to ensure the programme remains relevant to local community needs.

More importantly, the initiative reflects a broader vision of encouraging stronger collaboration between farming communities, local institutions, and industry stakeholders in promoting more sustainable and value-oriented pepper development.

If successfully implemented, the initiative may also serve as a reference model for similar capacity-building programmes across other IPC Member Countries, subject to further coordination and alignment with the respective national authorities and local stakeholders.

Creating greater value for farmers begins by expanding possibilities beyond the farm itself.
