On the sidelines of the 80th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific which was organized at the United Nation Conference Center Bangkok, Thailand on 22 – 26 April 2024, the International Pepper Community (IPC) had a bilateral meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of United Nation and the Executive Secretary of the United Nations-Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Her Excellency Madam Arminda Alisjahbana on 26 April 2024.

The Executive Secretary of UNESCAP was accompanied by the Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnership and Coordination, Mr. Hirohito Toda, the Director of Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, Madam Rupa Chanda and her other staffs. During the bilateral meeting, the Executive Director, Madam Firna Azura Ekaputri Haji Marzuki and officers of the International Pepper Community updated UNESCAP on the work and programmes as well as the future direction of the Community and latest development of the global pepper industry.

The bilateral meeting also discussed the area in which UNESCAP and IPC could collaborate and work together. The Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, Madam Arminda Alisjahbana also encouraged IPC Secretariat to work on getting Brazil back to become the member of IPC as it would secure more than 70% share of global pepper production from all member countries of the IPC. Furthermore, ESCAP and IPC also discussed on future collaboration on trade facilitation and business process analysis for IPC Member Countries for the betterment of the industry.
